What is RF Microneedling?
Radiofrequency Microneedling, commonly called RF Microneedling, is a non-surgical skin treatment that combines microneedle technology with radiofrequency energy to stimulate deep collagen and elastin production, tighten skin, and improve a wide range of skin concerns. Unlike traditional microneedling, which uses needles alone to create mechanical injuries and trigger collagen production, RF Microneedling adds controlled heat energy delivered directly into the dermis, amplifying results and addressing skin concerns that needles alone can’t reach.
It’s important to understand that not all RF Microneedling devices work the same way or treat the same concerns. At Bonness we use two medical-grade devices, Venus Viva and Sylfirm X, each with different technology, different strengths, and different ideal candidates. Choosing the right device for your skin is just as important as choosing the right provider.
Not All RF Microneedling is the Same
A lot of clinics market every RF device simply as “RF Microneedling,” but there are meaningful differences in how these devices work and what they can treat. Understanding the three broad categories helps explain why device selection matters:
- Traditional Microneedling: needles only; stimulates collagen through mechanical injury
- RF Microneedling: needles and radiofrequency heat delivered into the dermis; tightening + collagen stimulation
- NanoFractional RF Resurfacing: surface-focused thermal resurfacing; best for texture, scarring, and skin polishing
Venus Viva is closer to NanoFractional RF resurfacing, making it the stronger choice for texture, scarring, and pores. Sylfirm X is a true dual-wave RF microneedling device, making it the stronger choice for tightening, redness, pigmentation, and melasma. At Bonness, your Aesthetician will assess your skin and recommend the right device or a strategic combination of both!
