What is Venus Viva NanoFractional RF Microneedling?

Venus Viva is a NanoFractional radiofrequency skin resurfacing device. It’s important to understand that it works a little differently than traditional RF microneedling. Rather than using needles that puncture the skin, Venus Viva uses tiny pins to deliver precise thermal (heat) energy into the skin’s surface in a controlled, fractional pattern. This heat creates micro-injuries in the epidermis and upper dermis, triggering the body’s natural healing response and stimulating collagen and elastin production, without drawing blood or breaking the skin barrier the way traditional microneedling and traditional RF Microneedling does.

Think of Venus Viva as sitting closer to the radiofrequency resurfacing end of the spectrum (more surface-focused and more resurfacing in nature) compared to Sylfirm X, which operates deeper in the dermis. This makes Venus Viva particularly effective for patients whose primary concerns are textural: acne scars, rough or uneven skin, enlarged pores, crepey skin, and fine lines.

  • Are comfortable with 2–5 days of visible skin healing
  • Have lighter to medium skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–III) or have discussed PIH risk with their provider
  • Are looking for a resurfacing-level improvement without the downtime of ablative laser treatments
  • Are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Do not have active skin infections, open wounds, or certain skin conditions in the treatment area

Patients with a history of melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), darker skin tones, or highly reactive skin may be better candidates for Sylfirm X, which carries a lower PIH risk.
