Get Your Best Skin Ever

How to Get Your Best Skin Ever

My daughter’s favorite season is fall. She loves the cooler weather, the changing leaves on the trees, and of course, sweater weather! My daughter is only 16, so the toll of summer sun hasn’t reared its ugly head on her face, yet. But for most of us, the summer season of forgotten SPF, surf and sand, combined with the lazy days of summer require a serious skin care pick me up. Following are some tips that are sure to turn your skin around fast and bring it back to a healthy, smoother and flawless condition.

Exfoliate while you cleanse

Summer humidity and heat usually results in an increase in oil production of the skin, this combined with fall’s cooler air, can create layers of dead skin cell buildup. Dead skin cells trap oil and acne causing bacteria under the skin, causing clogged pores and blemishes. If this describes you, use a cleanser with salicylic acid which will gently exfoliate any dead skin cells and lessen clogged pores and breakouts.

If your skin is dull and pigmented, exfoliation is imperative when it comes to repairing and brightening the complexion. Facial cleansing products that use glycolic or lactic acids gently exfoliate the skin and go a long way to revitalize and improve the complexion.

Note that for most skin types, a facial cleanser that includes these ingredients may be used two or three times per week. A facial sonic cleansing brush is also a great way to exfoliate but again should be used no more than two or three times per week.

Boost hydration

When our skin is hydrated it appears luminous, young and healthy. Think about adding a product with hyaluronic acid as its main active ingredient. It acts as a drink of water for your skin. Your skin will love you for it by looking radiant.

Schedule facial or peel

Consider scheduling a professional facial or peel. Most people see faster and increased results from professional treatments. Getting the pores manually cleaned out will drastically improve clogged pores and blackheads, and a series of mild to moderate peels will encourage the fading of stubborn hyperpigmentation (brown spots). Your skin will look better and healthier immediately! (PS. Our OPT IN patients receive three FREE peels or facials. Yay!!!)

Commit to cleansing your skin am and pm everyday

This to me is a no brainer- however; you would be surprised how many people do not cleanse their face twice a day. In the morning, cleansing your face prepares your skin for the upcoming daily dose of vitamins and moisture that you are providing when you use your medical grade skin care products. And, not cleansing your face before bed results in your skin steeping in the day’s dirt, oil and bacteria all night long. Ugh!

Also, it does not allow your body to naturally repair itself because it has to contend with the grime. Cleansing you face twice a day with a gentle cleanser is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to have great looking skin.

Get your beauty sleep

I know, I know, there is never enough time in the day. But, not getting enough sleep results in your skin looking lack luster and tired. Because it is! Your body’s reparative systems work at night and may be compromised by not getting enough rest which may result in you not staying healthy. Go to bed!

Wear sunscreen

This is skincare 101. Always, always, always wear a daily sunscreen each and every day. Did I just say that twice in the same sentence? Do not be fooled by makeup products that include a SPF. Typically, you need to use approximately a teaspoon of the makeup to reach the SPF # and that is a lot of makeup, ick! and the products’ main job is not protection. Be smart to safeguard your skin, wear a product that’s main job is protection – a sunscreen.

Love your look!

Carol Myers
